Molenbeek, Radical Generation?
A movie of CHERGUI KHARROUBI & JOSÉ-LUIS PENAFUERTE
Synopsis
Molenbeek is the second poorest municipality in Belgium with a high population density: 15,000 inhabitants per square kilometer. The unemployment rate for people under 25 is 45%. Filmed the day after the Paris attacks and over several months, this documentary offers us an uncompromising but uncomplicated dive into the reality of this working-class and underprivileged district in the center of the European capital. A district that all the press and all international surveys have quickly designated as the cradle of jihadism in Europe. Attacks by
Paris to those of Brussels, passing through the arrest of Salah Abdeslam, these dramatic twists have focused all eyes on this municipality and raise questions about these questions: has Molenbeek given birth to monsters? Is Molenbeek really the cradle of jihadism in Europe?
